Furniture and cabinets: The alkyd
emulsion technology is perfect for our new furniture
and cabinets paint, since it meets all the
requirements of this type of projects. When we paint
kitchen cabinets or revamp a piece of furniture, the
features to look for are resistance to marking and
humidity, and washability. All these advantages are
present in the alkyd emulsion technology. Thanks to
its low VOC content, it causes much less damage to
the environment compared with traditional alkyd
paints. The product's minimal odour also makes
painting a pleasant experience. Finally, once the
project is completed, simply use soap and water to
clean rollers and brushes.

Over the past few decades,
solvent-based products, better known as alkyd or oil
paints, have lost much of their popularity. In 2009, the
government approved a law aimed at reducing the quantity
of volatile organic compounds in decorative paints. Most
solvent-based products contained more VOCs than the new
regulation permits, and should therefore be taken off
the market over the next few months.
After many
years of research, Sico innovates once again, and
managed to integrate an alkyd emulsion in a water-based
paint. This unique mix combines the best of both worlds:
the durability of alkyd and the ease of use of a
water-based paint. It will be available in the following
products: a heavy duty paint for furniture and cabinets,
and an all-in-one GoPrime primer. One of the main
benefits of this new technology is that the paint dries
in 2 to 6 hours (which compares with regular water-based
paint), while solvent-based products sometimes require
24 hours between coats.
