Revitalize your kitchen
Are you thinking of renovating your kitchen? Painting is a great way to revitalize your kitchen. Here are a few painting tips to help you modernize your kitchen with a touch of color.
1. Choosing the right colours for your kitchen
The first step is to choose colours that harmonize with your space. If you're looking for warmth, opt for vibrant hues that brighten up the space. Yellow gives your kitchen a bright, cheerful feel. Our 2024 colour of the year, Satin, is perfect for kitchens, pairing perfectly with touches of gray and white to give the kitchen a soft ambience.
Deep, warm reds, like Cubist Red, are perfect for cabinetry and work well with white to warm your home. If red is a little too intense for you, muted pinks, such as Subtle Brown, are gaining in popularity and can be paired with many neutral tones.
If you prefer neutral tones, white, while an obvious choice, remains a versatile classic. Modern kitchens are known for their clean, monochrome look. If you want to achieve this look, but still want your cabinets to stand out, try an off-white, like Mushroom Mousse. This white is just different enough to create contrast, without breaking the modern look. This shade also works well in kitchens with a farmhouse look.
2. Choose the right paint
When it comes to painting a kitchen, the choice of paint is crucial, since it's one of the most-used rooms in the house, and one where spills are inevitable. Choose paints that are durable, washable and stain-resistant.
We suggest Sico Clean Surface. No need to paint your kitchen in a higher-gloss finish just to be able to keep it clean. Sico Clean Surface is available in a low-sheen eggshell finish that is our most durable finish and offers exceptional resistance stains, scuffs and unsightly marks from cleaning and abrasions even when tinted in deeper colours.
3. Gather the essential tools
Once you have your paint ready, ensure you have the right tools to paint your kitchen, including:- brushes
- rollers
- roller trays
- sanding paper
- masking tape/painter's tape
- wiping rags
- ladders
4. Prepare the kitchen
Remove items that might hinder the painting process, such as:- curtains,
- wall hangings
- utensil racks
- stools
- tables
- chairs
- carpets
5. Paint your kitchen
Now comes the fun part: painting your kitchen. Start with the ceiling, if you're painting it.
Work on one wall at a time. Use a paintbrush to cut a 2-3 inch area between the ceiling and the wall, and between the wall and the moldings. Wipe excess paint off your brushes to avoid drips and achieve a smoother finish.
Use your roller for even paint application over large surfaces. Roll in a "W" or "V" shape, then fill a 2-3 foot section of the wall completely. When you think the area is finished, gently run the roller over the wall to even out the paint.
Depending on the paint you've chosen, wait at least two hours between coats. When your second coat is completely dry, remove the painter's tape and enjoy your new kitchen!
